  • Wrightwood-Ashburn Branch, Chicago Public Library 8530 South Kedzie Avenue Chicago, IL, 60652 United States (map)

Join us for a meaningful and creative experience that celebrates the legacy of Marjorie Stewart Joyner—an iconic inventor, educator, and pioneer in beauty and entrepreneurship.

In this interactive workshop, you'll explore the inspiring life of Marjorie Stewart Joyner through historical images and original patent illustrations. A Chicago trailblazer and protégé of Madam C.J. Walker, Joyner helped shape the cultural, civic, and beauty landscape of the 20th century—locally and nationally.

After this brief journey through her legacy, you'll dive into a hands-on session where you'll get to design your own custom hair accessories using a curated selection of jewels, beads, and decorative elements. Guided by jewelry artist Joy Joshua, you'll create pieces that reflect your personal style—while honoring the beauty, creativity, and innovation of Marjorie Stewart Joyner.
